Young readers will enjoy this， and the lengthy discussion that wil ensue。It wasn’t clear to me that this is a book for young readers。 Not based on the reviews。 A page in and it became obvious。 Nonetheless， I finished the book in a couple of hours and don’t regret it。 Lots to think about and discuss。

Choice， adversity， desire， love， and real pleasure are dangerous， and can lead to pain， but without them life loses its purpose。 Without evil there is nothing to overcome， and there may be no bad， but there is also no good， there may be no pain， but there is also no joy。 A utopia without pain， greed， or wrongdoing， is unachievable。 And with it the true experiences of life become more and more unattainable。 Ok bye。

This book is a classic and well worth reading again as an adult for all of those who read this back in school。 Lowry writes in a clear and unchallenged fashion that makes the content easy to understand， while still maintaining a great depth in regards to content。 The questions the book asks are well worth revisiting。

I love this book！ The first time I read this book I was 14 and in 8th grade English class。 Now at 30 and a mom I’m questioning if we really should’ve been reading this book at that age。 Jonas， a 12-year old male， is coming of age for his community。 This means he will be assigned into his position for the rest of his life。 Things are done differently in Jonas’ community; careers are assigned for you， feelings don’t exist， life as we know it looks very different。 While some aspects of Jonas’ commu I love this book！ The first time I read this book I was 14 and in 8th grade English class。 Now at 30 and a mom I’m questioning if we really should’ve been reading this book at that age。 Jonas， a 12-year old male， is coming of age for his community。 This means he will be assigned into his position for the rest of his life。 Things are done differently in Jonas’ community; careers are assigned for you， feelings don’t exist， life as we know it looks very different。 While some aspects of Jonas’ community might be more appealing readers will have to ask themselves if those positives are worth the trade offs。I have to say I’m impressed by Jonas and his ability to see life in the mature way that he does and to be so willing to put his own feelings aside to protect others。 He’s quite grown up for being a 12 year old boy。 I guess I have to read the next 3 books in this series because the ending breaks my heart and I can’t just be left to wonder！ I don’t re-read books， but I just did this one and honestly I’m probably going to read this one a few more times in my lifetime and hopefully my children will too！ 。。。more

I would have loved this book had I read it when I was 12。 Nice story， easy language， yet quite a bit of depth in the message。 Might be the easiest introduction to dystopian science fiction for a young reader。
